“The road to healing ADDICTION is called recovery. It’s not just for daddy, but the whole family.” — Selah

Selah Has a Secret is a children’s book that gracefully explains addiction from the perspective of a young girl.

Through intentional rhymes and pictures, readers will gain more clarity about the disease of addiction and learn coping skills to better manage their worries and feelings.

The book also includes discussion questions to help parents/caregivers, educators, and mental health professionals navigate difficult but necessary conversations with children impacted by addiction.

“Selah Has A Secret is an innovative asset to social emotional learning. This picture book takes an educational and relatable approach to sharing an authentic story about a child of addiction. The use of rhyme and diverse representation cultivates engagement throughout the story. The author also promotes continued learning by including discussion questions. Selah Has a Secret truly fosters the positive shift and growth in the conversations surrounding addiction..”

— LaDena Eames, School Psychologist (Baltimore County Public Schools)

“The way [Ms. Brown] captured the topic is a sonnet. The rhyming makes it so easy to follow. The way the child’s view explains what alcohol and drug addiction is, it really comes across simplistic enough for a child to understand. My favorite part is when the child talks about how her daddy loves her!”

— Sherifa Louis, Children’s Book Author, My Name Makes Me Feel Special
